The distant ancestors of the modern Basenji appeared around 3000 BC. Central Africa is considered their homeland: Congo, Sudan, Liberia. Locals used these dogs as hunting dogs: a delicate scent, speed, ingenuity and interest in prey made Basenji indispensable assistants. The breed was also very popular in Egypt: puppies were presented to royalty as a valuable gift. Images, figurines and even mummies of these dogs have been found in the tombs of the pharaohs. The Egyptians believed that basenjis scare away evil spirits and attract the help of light forces to their owner.

Greyhounds are a group of breeds of hunting dogs used for unarmed hunting of animals. The word 'greyhound', according to Dahl's dictionary, means: 'quick, agile, quick, quick, lively, zealous.' It is easy to guess that the hallmarks of these animals should be high speed, endurance and agility. They are characterized by a thin skeleton, long legs, dry muscles, and an elongated skull. Unlike hounds, greyhounds are more adapted for hunting in open areas.
